The Power of Sharing – Building Out Loud

No one chooses ALS.
No one chooses the moment life shifts — the diagnosis, the uncertainty, the questions that follow.
But no one should have to face it alone.
Throughout history, the most meaningful progress has never come from one person standing alone. It has come from people standing together. Sharing stories. Sharing knowledge. Sharing strength. Building not quietly behind closed doors, but out loud — where others can see, hear, and join in.
Sharing is not just generosity. It is courage.
When someone shares their story, something powerful happens. Walls soften. Fear loses some of its grip. A room that once felt heavy with silence begins to breathe again. A shared story can turn strangers into allies. It can turn isolation into community.
At the ALS Society, one of our greatest strengths is the people who believe so deeply in this mission that they are willing to share it. Families who speak about their journeys. Volunteers who give their time. Donors who invest in hope. Every act of sharing becomes a thread in a larger fabric of support.
And that fabric holds people up when they need it most.
Sharing Experience, Creating Hope
Knowledge is one of the only things in this world that grows when it is given away.
Here at the ALS Society, the people living with ALS — and those who have walked alongside them — are our greatest teachers. Their lived experience serves as guidance for newly diagnosed families searching for direction in overwhelming moments.
Every lesson shared becomes reassurance.
Every conversation becomes a lifeline.
Every “we’ve been there too” becomes hope.
The Strength of Being Seen
There is emotional power in speaking honestly about the hard things.
When someone shares their challenges, they create space for others to say, “Me too.” They make it safe to ask questions. To grieve. To hope. To keep going.
A burden shared truly does become lighter. Not because the diagnosis changes — but because the loneliness does.
Listening is also sharing. Sitting beside someone. Offering presence. Offering compassion. Sometimes the most powerful words are simply, “You are not alone.”
When We Build Out Loud
When a vision is shared, it grows. People want to help. They want to be part of something that matters. They want to know their actions make a difference.
A single act of sharing — one story, one post, one conversation — can ripple further than we ever imagine. It can reach someone quietly searching for answers at midnight. It can inspire someone to volunteer. It can encourage someone to give.
The power of sharing transforms individuals into communities. It turns ideas into movements. It replaces silence with strength.
And it reminds us that while ALS may change lives, it does not erase humanity, compassion, or
connection.
A Call to Build With Us
The ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia’s new Strategic Plan — Building Out Loud — is an invitation.
An invitation to speak.
An invitation to listen.
An invitation to stand beside one another.
Over the coming months, we will be sharing stories. We will be building awareness. We will be
strengthening support. And we need our community — all the sharers out there — to help us carry this
forward.
Here’s how you can help:
Share your story. Publicly, if you’re ready, we will help you shape it and share it. Or privately, with those you trust. Over tea. Around a kitchen table. In a circle of friends. You may discover that your story is exactly what someone else needed to hear.
Share our message. Share our social media posts. Every click, every share, every conversation spreads awareness and builds the support that funds essential services for people living with ALS.
Share your time or resources. Volunteer if you can. And if you have the capacity, consider making a monthly or annual donation. Every contribution strengthens the network of care that families rely on.
Because when we share, we build something bigger than ourselves.
We build understanding.
We build compassion.
We build support.
We build hope.
And when we build out loud — together — we ensure that no one facing ALS walks this path in silence.
Sharing is not simply an act.
It is an act of love.
It is an act of courage.
It is an act of community.
And together, it is how we build a stronger future.
