Breathing Equipment Initial Set-Up Program

Supporting Health and Quality of Life

The ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia is incredibly fortunate to provide our clients with breathing equipment such as cough assists, Bi-PAP machines, and suction units. This equipment is integral to the health and quality of life of our clients living with ALS.

As a small non-profit organization, we rely heavily on donations to continue loaning essential equipment, including breathing equipment, free of charge.

Because breathing equipment requires professional training for proper installation and setup, we are unable to complete the individual set-up ourselves. Instead, we work with trusted third-party vendors in the community to complete these services.

Financial Support for Initial Set-Up Fees

Until recently, while we loaned breathing equipment to our clients at no cost, clients were responsible for paying the initial setup fees.

We are very excited to now provide financial assistance toward these initial setup costs.

We can cover up to $500 per client toward the initial set-up fees for ALL breathing equipment.

This means there is $500 per client available to go toward the setup of any and/or all breathing equipment.

How the $500 Coverage Works

For example:

If a client receives a cough assist machine and the initial setup cost is $200, there would be $300 remaining to apply toward the setup of a Bi-PAP machine or suction unit.

If the total setup fees exceed $500, the client will be responsible for paying the difference.

If the $500 is not fully used, the remaining balance will not be issued to the client or vendor for other purposes.

Important Program Guidelines

The $500 per client is intended ONLY for initial setup fees for breathing equipment.

This funding DOES NOT include:

  • Replacement equipment

  • Ongoing supplies

  • Maintenance items needed to keep machines running smoothly

These additional costs remain the client’s responsibility.
